முத்துபவழபொன் நீலவெண்ணிறத் தைமுகச் சிறப்பும்

                            ரத்தினமகுடம் மீதொளிர்ந்திடு கூன்பிறை வனப்பும்

குத்திடங்குசமும் மண்டையோடொடு சங்குசக் கிரமும் 

மத்தையொத்தகதை   வார்கசையர விந்தமீ ரிணையும் 

பத்தருக்களியும் அச்சநீக்கமும் என்றறு கரமும் 

மொத்தமானதொரு தேவிமந்திரம் ஓதிடும் பொறுப்பும்

நித்தமெதையுமே செய்திடாதொரு  நாளிலீ டுசெய்யும்

பித்தினும்பெரிது காண்பதற்கிலை நகைஇசோ தரியே

விளக்க்கம்

1. முத்து பவழ பொன் நீல வெண் நிறத்து ஐமுகச் சிறப்பும்  - The greatness of the five faces of the hues Pearl, coral, golden, sapphire blue and white
2. ரத்தின மகுடம் மீது ஒளிர்ந்திடு கூன் பிறை வனப்பும் - the beauty of the crescent that shines above the gem-studded crown
3. குத்திடு அங்குசமும் மண்டையோடொடு சங்கு சக்ரமும் - the poking goad, the skull, the conch and the discus
4. மத்தை ஒத்த கதை வார் கசை அரவிந்தம் ஈரிணையும் - the churner like mace, the whip and the pair of lotuses
5. பத்தருக்கு அளியும் அச்சநீக்கமும் என்று அறு கரமும் - the hand that has the varada mudra of blessing and the abaya mudra that removes fears and the six above arms (i..e the ones that wield weapons - the lotus wielding and mudra hands apart) 
6. மொத்தமானது ஒரு தேவி மந்திரம் ஓதிடும் பொறுப்பும் (such is the form of the Devi's whose mantra one has the duty to chant)
7. நித்தம் எதையும் செய்திடாது ஒரு நாளில் ஈடு செய்யும் (chant daily but I do nothing and in this one day I try to make up for it) 
8. பித்தினும் பெரிது காண்பதற்கு இல்லை நகைஇ சோதரியே  (there is no greater foolhardy than this to be seen anywhere. You can laugh at this O' sister). Note: Gayatri is considered the elder sister of Brahmanas. 

The first lines are of course pretty much an attempted Tamilization of the invocation of Gayatri Devi :

Mukta-vidruma - hema-nila-dhavala-chayair mukhair-tryakshnaih,

Yuktam indu-nibadha-ratna-makutam tatvarthavarnatmikam

Gayatrim varadabhayankusa-kasam subhram-kapalam gadam

Sankham chakram atha aravindayugalam hastair vahantim bhaje

I pray to the three-eyed Gayatri, her five faces tinged with shades of pearl, coral, gold, sapphire, and white, whose crown studded with precious stones is topped by the moon, the embodiment of utterances signifying the Supreme Truth, who wields the goad, the whip, the white skull, the mace, the conch and the discus (in six of her hands), and holding a pair of lotuses in each hand, displays with the other two the mudras conferring boons and fearlessness.
