Have blog, will archive. What follows is from a clutch of posts written at various points in time about ThillAnA MohanAmbAL - in my opinion, one of the most thoroughly enjoyable films with a distinctly homegrown aesthetic. Due to the nature of the post, you can expect all kinds of unevenness and abruptness, which the content shall hopefully compel you to bear with. Plunge..
A few days back I managed to catch Thevar Magan and, as is my wont whenever I watch it, started raving about it. This time I also managed to have a conversation about it with @kalyanasc on twitter. Following the principle of 'Have Blog. Will Archive", I thought I'd post it here. Oh, the things I do for posterity! @ dagalti How much credit would like to give the late Bharathan? But what happens when the artist in question is genius personified ? If the previous paragraph sounded sophomoric, well you guessed right. It was the gist of the opening paragraph of a piece I tried writing when in college, titled : " Of Wayne, Goundamani and Wilde ". The intended recipient was "The Hindu" of indhula-sandhula fame. The paper had published an article the previous week hailing a then hot comedian which was a tad too effusive in praise for my taste. So I had set about trying to right wrongs.Of course, the article with the rejection slip came back home before I was even back from...
